Well, as you pointed out in a downstream post, your video card doesn't support Aero, regardless of the amount of video RAM installed. I was not cognizant of your video card model when I responded to your original post. That hack does work for video cards that -do- support Aero -and- have less than 128MB video RAM.

Aero doesn't need much "graphics power", it runs fine on low end GPUs that fullfill the requirements (DX9 compatible, PS2.0, WDDM drivers). And the amount of video memory needed is only dependent of the resolution. Minimum requirement is 64MB, 128MB is more than fine for most users. More video memory does *not*

It defaulted the "Aero" visualization "features" to a fully enabled state, I'm guessing. Essentially it pigged the system out, slowed to a crawl. This is a machine that runs WinXP quite handily.
